After the death of his wife, Kung Fu master Ip Man learns about his own illness, which pushes him to take a decisive step: he leaves his rebel son in the care of his brother and flies to San Francisco to find a guy a new, more suitable place to study. There he learns that his former student Bruce Lee opened his own martial arts school Wing Chun and wrote a book in English, revealing the secrets of Chinese masters. Because of this, Yip Man has a conflict with the head of the United Charitable Association of China, from which he needs to receive a letter for placing his son in school, but this does not stop the master.
