In 1974, little Lars Eriksson watches on TV the victorious performance of the Swedish band ABBA at the Eurovision song contest and lights up with the dream of one day being on stage as a full-fledged participant. Together with his childhood friend Sigrid Eriksdottir, he creates the musical Duo Fire Saga, but does not achieve success outside of his native Icelandic town of Husavik, where he performs in local bars. But one day luck smiles on Amateur performers: due to a fatal combination of circumstances, Lars and Sigrid are the only ones who Iceland can send to the competition this year.
